JUST IN — Taylor Swift donates millions of dollars to London airport victims as emergency services have descended on Terminal 3 at Heathrow Airport after a serious incident that occurred in the multi-storey car park early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, what began as a robbery quickly escalated into a chaotic and dangerous situation — leaving dozens hurt and travellers shaken.
What happened — the incident unfolds
Officers were called to the Terminal 3 car park at 08:11 GMT after reports that a group of men had allegedly assaulted a number of people.
The assault reportedly occurred during a robbery: a woman was robbed of her suitcase inside a car park lift by a group of four men.
During the robbery, the men sprayed what is believed to be a chemical irritant — likely a form of pepper spray — in the lift and surrounding area.
Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene. One passenger — who had just landed and drove into the car park — said there was “coughing everywhere”, with people clutching their eyes and throats.
Others described the reaction as “burning” and “chaotic”. Armed police arrived swiftly — within nine minutes — and detained a 31-year-old man nearby on suspicion of assault.
