This investigation appears to be political retaliation. Months ago, during a public tour of the renovation site, Powell embarrassed Trump by correcting Trump’s false claims about the project’s cost increases.

Powell calmly explained that Trump was mistakenly counting an entirely separate building that had been completed years earlier.
