Overview of the IncidentOn September 11, 2025, Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot during a public event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah.
The event, part of his “American Comeback Tour,” drew hundreds of attendees. Kirk was speaking outdoors when a single gunshot rang out around 12:10 p.m. local time.
Video footage shows him clutching his neck and collapsing from his chair, with blood visible from the wound. He was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
No other attendees were injured. President Donald Trump described it as a “dark moment for America,” ordered U.S. flags lowered to half-staff until September 15, and planned to attend Kirk’s funeral in Arizona.
Kirk’s wife, Erika Kirk, vowed to continue his work, stating the movement “will not die.”The shooter fired from the roof of the nearby Losee Center building, approximately 100-200 yards away.
Authorities released CCTV footage showing a suspect in a distinctive black T-shirt (featuring an American flag and eagle print), sunglasses, Converse shoes, and carrying a black backpack.
The individual was seen climbing to the roof, firing the shot, then fleeing by jumping down and running toward a wooded area. On September 13, Utah officials announced the arrest of 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was held without bail.
Robinson, described as having left-leaning views and a history of anti-Kirk sentiment (including calling him a “hate-spreader”), arrived on campus in a gray Dodge Challenger around 8:30 a.m. He reportedly changed clothes on the roof before fleeing.
