Fatal Victims of Wis. School Shooting Were Student and Teacher; 2 Students Have ‘Life-Threatening Injuries’
Three people are dead, including the shooter, after gunfire rang out at Abundant Life Christian School on Monday, Dec. 16
A teacher and a teenage student were the two fatal victims of the school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wis., on Monday, Dec. 16, authorities said at an afternoon press conference.
Just before 11 a.m. police responded to an active shooter call, Chief Shon Barnes said at a press conference. They discovered the shooter, identified only as a teenage student at the school, deceased.
Barnes did not say how the shooter died, but indicated that police did not fire their weapons. Six students remain hospitalized, Barnes said. Two are in critical condition with “life-threatening injuries,” said Barnes, while the injuries of the remaining four are considered non-life-threatening.
Madison schools were put on lockdown following the shooting.
Referencing the psychological trauma of the incident, Barnes, when discussing the students’ injuries, said, “Those are just the physical injuries.” According to the school’s website, Abundant Life Christian School was founded in 1978 and serves grades K-12.
