Halle Bailey and DDG have split up after nearly three years together.
The Little Mermaid actress, 24, struck up a relationship with rapper DDG, 26 – whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. – in early 2022.
Bailey and the music artist share son Halo – born in December 2023 – and showed their baby boy’s face for the first time back in July.
But it was revealed on Thursday that even though it was ‘not easy’, they have decided to call it quits. ‘After much reflection and heartfelt conversations, Halle and I have decided to go our separate ways. This decision was not easy, but we believe it’s the best path forward for both of us,’ DDG wrote on Instagram.
Adding: ‘I cherish the time we’ve spent together and the love we’ve shared. Despite the change in our relationship, our love for each other remains deep and true.’ Halle has yet to acknowledge the split publicly, but DDG concluded his statement by noting that he and Halle intend to ‘co-parent’ their little one going forward as he asked fans to respect their ‘understanding and support’ at during this time.
He said: ‘As we focus on our individual journeys and our roles as co- parents, we cherish the bond we’ve built and the beautiful moments we’ve shared.’ ‘As we navigate this transition, we ask for your understanding and support. Thank you for your love and encouragement. – DDG.’
Halle doesn’t often comment on her private life and had even given birth several weeks before she actually revealed it to the world. At the time, she explained: ‘There was no way in hell I was going to share the biggest joy of my world with anyone. Halo was my gift. He is the greatest blessing, and I had no obligation to expose him, me, or my family to that.’
The actress and rapper first sparked romance rumors back in January 2022 and a few months later in March, went public with their budding romance. At the time, DDG jumped to his main Instagram page to share a since-deleted birthday tribute to Halle. The star had written, ‘Happy Birthday to the beautifulest, the flyest, the sweetest. Love you forever.’
In June 2022, the pair made their red carpet debut as they attended the BET Awards together and sported all-black ensembles during the event. They made other appearances that year, such as stopping by Paris Fashion Week and later walked the red carpet at the Avatar: The Way Of Water screening in December 2022.
During a past interview with Essence, Bailey opened up about how both she and DDG met and when asked whether she was in love, the performer answered with, ‘Yes. For sure I am.’ ‘I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them,’ she explained to the outlet.
‘I completely forgot about him. But then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me – and the rest is history.’ Halle Bailey and DDG have split up after nearly three years together.
